Plasma is the liquid part of your blood that carries your platelets and red and white blood cells around your body. Platelets help your blood clot; they also carry proteins known as growth factors that help your body heal from injury.
Platelet-rich plasma is made from your own blood. Dr. Aish or Dr. Brender uses a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, which are then mixed back into your plasma. PRP contains up to a 10 times higher concentration of platelets than normal blood.
When PRP is injected into an injured body part, the platelets flood the injury with a high volume of your own growth factors, which both stimulate and support your body’s natural healing ability.

Your PRP injection appointment should take just over an hour. Your doctor begins the procedure by drawing a vial of your blood and creating the PRP serum.
Your doctor injects the serum into your injured tendon, ligament, muscle, or joint. You may experience some relief after your first PRP injection, but most patients have a series of up to six injections for optimal results.
PRP injections aren’t painful, although you may experience some inflammation directly following your procedure. This is a normal part of the healing process that is triggered by your injection.
